Fifteenth Regiment U.S. Infantry Co. B, Mexican War (1846-1848)
Co. B, 15th U. S. Infantry “New Regulars”
Co. B was recruited in Defiance, Williams and Lucas counties of Northwestern Ohio. Officers of the company were: Captain Daniel Chase, Toledo, 1st Lt. James W. Wiley, Defiance and 2nd Lt. William Goodloe. Their route of travel to Mexico included passage on the Packet Boat, “Erie,” on the Miami & Erie Canal to Cincinnati, from there they took a river boat to New Orleans, where they boarded the sailing ship, “Southport,” to Vera Cruz, Mexico, arriving there on the June 15th, 1847. Co. B took part in the following battles during the Mexican American War, 1846 – 48: the Battle of Churubusco, the Battle of Melino del Rey and the Battle of Chapuhepae. It was during the battle for Mexico City that the company suffered most of its causalities. The soldiers returned home in 1848.
